Model Airplane News
Spitfire Mk I
Designed by Mark Rittinger, this Spitfire is the eighth model in his Model Airplane News warbird series. Truly a legendary WW II warbird, the
Supermarine Spitfire Mk I is rarely modeled when compared to later variants, but it remains a beautiful and sleek fighter to build and fly. A nice companion to Mark’s other published warbird construction articles, such as his Bf 109E and FW 190A (also available from AirAgeStore.com), the Spitfire uses traditional built-up balsa-and-plywood construction. The Spitfire is a one-piece model design, so the wing is not removable. Easy to hand-launch, it does not have landing gear in order to keep the weight down and performance up. A 3-channel design, the Spitfire does not have rudder control, but it is an easy task to make it functional. In the air, the Mk I is a fun and predictable flier with plenty of power on tap for any typical warbird maneuver. Order plans at AirAgeStore.com/ spitfire-mk-1.html.
