Programming the Spektrum DXe Transmitter
The DXe transmitter that comes bundled with the RTF 330X is preprogrammed, but after initial flight testing, I decided some adjustments were needed, particularly to the gyro gain. Fortunately, Spektrum offers a programming cord that allows you to adjust settings on the DXe using your laptop computer or smartphone. Both work well, but the smartphone cord allows adjustments at the field without lugging a laptop along. My DXe came with the v1.3 firmware, so before programming with my smartphone, I had to use the Spektrum Updater utility to install the v1.6 firmware. With that completed, it was a simple matter to connect the DXe to my phone, sync the settings, and begin programming. Note that to get to advanced settings, such as adjusting dual rates, throttle, and pitch curves, you must tap the About icon and switch the app mode to Advanced. This is a little easier with the laptop version, which provides a larger graphic display of current settings. You can adjust settings to your preference and then save them to the transmitter. Another nice feature the Spektrum programmer offers is the ability to save all your settings to a specific model memory for that aircraft. So if you decide to use your DXe for flying a different model, you can save the existing memory if you want to swap back in the future. While not quite as nice as the multiple-model memories featured on higherend Spektrum radios, it’s much better than losing your programming and having to start over. The programmer is an inexpensive option that makes the low-cost DXe more capable.
