Our Favorite Warbirds
“We must be the arsenal of democracy,” said President Franklin D. Roosevelt as the country was supporting our Allies at the start of World War II. This quote specifically referred to American industry as the primary supplier of aircraft and materials for the Allied war effort. Many amazing aircraft from top American manufacturers were borne of this effort, and they eventually helped U.S. forces and our Allies win the war.
Some of these planes are featured in this month’s “Top Ten Warbirds” feature, and all the models we picked score high marks for scale fidelity and terrific flight characteristics. Scale WW II aircraft are my personal favorite. They remind me of a special time in our history, so I’m always excited to see P-51s, B-25s, and F6F Hellcats in action and on the flightline.
