Be­ing land­locked in the city didn't stop Lynn and Josh Toskovich from mak­ing their master bath feel like a sea­side get­away. De­signer Lau­ren Leiss helped bring the vi­sion to life, but it took tear­ing the room down to the studs. Hor­i­zon­tal wood planks cover the walls in shiplap and sim­ple white cabi­netry with bin pulls give the space a charm­ingly cot­tage feel. Sea-glass-color floor tile un­der­scores the mood. Sand­color coun­ter­tops top the white cab­i­nets. Black iron light fix­tures, mounted di­rectly on the mir­rors, and pol­ished-nickel hard­ware add con­trast and sparkle, re­spec­tively. Now, John says, the bright, wel­com­ing room is “a nice way to wake up.”

op­po­site: A sleek free­stand­ing tub re­placed a bulky built-in tub. Light-colored grout gives the sea-blue floor tiles a wa­tery look. Its min­i­mal, mod­ern de­sign al­lowed for a more open lay­out and bal­ances the heft of the two walls of built-in cabi­netry....
