Pol­i­cy­mak­ers are be­com­ing more con­cerned about the (con­sol­i­da­tion) trend and more re­cep­tive to block­ing some merg­ers, but con­tin­u­ing mod­er­ate cost trends will pre­clude more ag­gres­sive ac­tion. Should the ad­min­is­tra­tion re­ally make com­pe­ti­tion a pri­or­ity, there are many other ac­tions that could be taken, but none will be easy— all at­tempts to make health­care more com­pet­i­tive will be op­posed by at least some stake­hold­ers.
