Sutton- Wallace didn’t choose healthcare, it chose her. When she realized she didn’t want a career in political science, she knew she still wanted to impact policy. Healthcare policy and management allowed her to do that and further build a career in the healthcare field.

“My unique style and background helps make me be a better administrator, leader and listener who is able to listen to a diversity of viewpoints and integrate them into new and innovative way of doing things,” she said.

As CEO, Sutton-Wallace led clinical redesigns that resulted in patient-care improvements, created a statewide pediatric network and expanded the hospital’s telemedicine services.

“I get to reflect on what the needs of women are and support future leaders. Leadership should not only reflect the community that it’s serving, it should also reflect the workforce that’s supporting it,” she said.

The CEO has high hopes for the next generation of women leaders in healthcare.

“I hope the next generation knows they bring value to the table, that they speak courageously and relentlessly and without apology.”
