Reuse Plastic Bottles

Modern Pioneer - - [penny-pinching] -

Like many people, I have a garden, which feeds my family and me. Unfortunately, northern New England’s growing season is very short. Consequently, I must use everything to my advantage, including plastic bottles.

Starting the seeds in the bottom halves of plastic bottles allows me to reuse a valuable resource and saves me from buying pots. Once the plant is in the ground, I put the bottle’s top half over the young plant. It acts like a mini greenhouse for each plant, trapping moisture and keeping it warm. It also protects the young plant from last-minute frosts. As soon as the plants are established and the danger of frost has passed, the bottles get recycled.
