Coming off a collegiate career-high 24-point effort, Jamaree Bouyea is averaging a team and career-high 18.4 points a game for the University of San Francisco men’s basketball team.

The 6-foot-3 playmaker is putting himself on NBA draft board radars, leading the Dons in assists (4.3) and steals (13) through their first nine games of the season.

A Palma prodigy and longtime member of Seaside’s Finest, Bouyea is shooting 56 percent from the field and 44.5 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

The senior guard has led San Francisco in scoring in six of the team’s first nine games, leading them to a win over then-No. 4 ranked Virginia. He’s averaging just under 32 minutes a game.

A West Coast Conference honorable mention selection last year, Bouyea has set career highs each year in every statistical category for the Dons (5- 4).

Bouyea helped Palma post a 36- 0 league record in his three seasons, taking them to the State Division IV title game in 2016.

MPC churns out another scholarship bound softball player

Ranked as high as No. 2 in the state after opening the softball season with 15 straight wins last spring put Monterey Peninsula College on the map as a recruiting destination.

While the pandemic cut short a record-breaking start in 2020, the Lobos program had its eighth player earn a softball scholarship when Olivia Pino committed to play at Westcliffe College in Irvine.

An all Coast Conference selection as a freshman at MPC in 2019, Pino can hit for power and create havoc on the base paths.

As a freshman for the Lobos, Pino hit .328 with three homers and 18 runs batted in. She walked 24 times, sporting a .449 on-base percentage. She hit .318 in 17 games last spring.

Pino will be reunited with Pacific Grove graduate and former Lobo teammate Diana Hughes, who committed earlier this year to play third base at Westcliffe.

Pulealii invited to Polynesian Bowl

While the pandemic continues to cancel events, it’s still worth noting that Palma offensive lineman Noah Pulealii was invited to take part in the Polynesian Bowl.

The prestigious event, which was slated for Jan. 23 in Honolulu, Hawaii, has been canceled because of COVID-19 restrictions across the county.

Pulealii, who officially signed last week with UCLA, was one of 61 players selected to play in the game, that have committed to Division I programs next fall.

Pulealii, who had also drawn interest from nearly every Pac 12 school, as well as Oklahoma and Florida, earned all- Gabilan Division honors in 2019 for Palma.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Pulealii was the only player in the tri-region area to be extended an invitation to the nationwide event.
