Couple sentenced in racially motivated assault
SALINAS >> A Seaside couple has been sentenced in a racially motivated assault that resulted in the victim’s jaw being broken, Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni said Wednesday.
Noah Boewer, 49, and Tricia Boewer, 38, went to the Monterey Lanes bowling alley on July 6, 2018, to go bowling. The victim was at the business to pick up registration forms for a charity event fundraiser when he encountered the Boewers.
According to a press release from the DA’s Office, the couple was standing outside the front door as the victim was leaving the bowling alley. The victim attempted to walk past the Boewers, and said “Excuse me,” but Tricia Boewer confronted the victim, yelling
racial slurs. Noah Boewer attempted to punch the victim, who was able to block the blow. Then Tricia Boewer jumped on the victim’s back and Noah Boewer punched the victim on the left side of his face. The unprovoked blow caused seven fractures to the left side of the victim’s
face, jaw.
Judge Andrew Liu sentenced Noah Boewer to six years in prison after a Monterey County jury found him guilty of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and found true a special allegation that he personally
including a broken
inflicted great bodily injury on the victim. The charge is a violent felony and is considered a strike under California’s threestrikes law. Tricia Boewer was sentenced to 60 days in the Monterey County Jail and one year of probation after the jury found her guilty of battery.
The victim was able to address the court during the sentencing hearing and explained the long-term physical and emotional effects that the attack has had on his life.
