Monterey High girls flag football

I was sad to read in the Herald that Monterey High will not be able to offer girls flag football because of a lack of field space. If the Dan Albert Stadium project was allowed to proceed when it was presented years ago, female student athletes would be able to start a new campus tradition of Friday Night Lady Dore games and make memories that will last a lifetime. The neighbors who filed the lawsuit to stop the project should be ashamed of themselves for denying the young women of our community this opportunity as should others who stand idly by and let these neighbors speak for the neighborhood. I remember a Monterey not long ago that rallied around kids and put their needs first. Where are the neighborhood leaders who are willing to stand up and reject the selfishness of the few in order to support our kids? — Ethan Ritcher, Monterey
