Marina Earth Day voluntee opportunities and festival
Hosted by Citizens for Sustainable Marina, City of Marina, Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District, and Blue Zones Project, and co-hosted by Monterey County, you are invited to attend the 17th Annual Marina Earth Day at Locke Paddon Park in Marina. Volunteer and engage in Earth Day service and the Festival on Saturday, April 15th, from 9 am-1 pm.
This exciting variety of Earth Day volunteer projects and celebration activities will take place at Wetland Community Park, 190 Seaside Circle, Marina (next to the Marina Library). This event will have a little bit of everything, including live music, various volunteer service options, free lunch for volunteers, fun kids activities and prizes, and non-profit organization booths for education and giveaways. This is a perfect event for families and children of all ages. In addition to learning and participation opportunities, there will be an emphasis on fun! Learn more about Marina’s native plant and animal species and many how-tos when it comes to gardening and propagation. Kids will also have a blast with our face painting, disc golf, “bouncy ponies,” and Fairy House Workshop, among other activities. “The City of Marina is pleased to join other regional leaders in supporting efforts to connect people with nature and celebrate Earth Day,” said Marina Mayor Bruce Delgado. Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (MPRPD), Blue Zones Project – Monterey County, Citizens for Sustainable Marina, Monterey ReGen (Monterey Regional Waste Management District), Sierra Club-Ventana Chapter, Save the Whales, Habitat Stewardship ProjectMonterey Bay, and Chuck Haugen Conservation Fund will be providing key support for the festival.
Together, as family, friends, and neighbors, we’ll help continue the res
toration and beautification of our amazing and unique wetland community park in the heart of Marina while getting to know each other a little bit better as a community. Volunteers are recommended to arrive between 830am-845am to choose a service project, with work beginning at 9 am. Service project options will include planting native plant species, removing invasive plants, picking up litter, mural painting, and sowing native seeds. No prior experience is necessary. Following the projects, volunteers who registered by 9 am will enjoy a free “thank you” lunch. All ages are welcome to participate, but a supervising adult must accompany anyone under the age of 18. Each participant will be required to sign a liability release form for MPRPD at registration.
Jackie Nelson, MPRPD Environmental Education Supervisor, encourages everyone to “Come prepared to get a little dirty. Your support makes a world of difference at this family-friendly park restoration celebration.”
