Postponing any events is really an easy choice

- By Dave Lewis

With the threat of spreading the COVID-19 virus first and foremost in their minds, state and federal governments are acting and reacting to what they feel is in the best interest of our people, our country, and our health.

We all have to try to do our part.

If delaying, postponing, or cancelling our bowling activities can make a difference, then so be it. Various league officials have contacted me asking what to do.

This is the advice I’ve been giving: Depending on how long this mandatory closure of bars, restaurants, bowling centers, etc. lasts, each league will have to make its own decision on how to handle the rest of the season for its league. (League officers: Please keep Riverwood Lanes, ALL of your individual league bowlers, and me, advised of what that decision is.)

Life, and time, do go on and, as the weather improves and activities move outdoors, league decisions could change.

For all concerned: Stay safe, stay healthy.

City Tournament participation: Women’s Division (40.0%) same as last year. OPEN division (100.3%) DOWN from 147%. Overall participation: DOWN almost 30% from 104.6% to an all-time low of

77.9%!

Membership: Down from 480 to 456. (For the 20192020 season, 456 Usbccertified members (170 female, 286 male including all Youth bowlers, which almost doubled!).

(Participation is alculated by (5 * OPEN TEAM entries-32) or (4 * Women’s TEAM entries-9), (4 * each S&D entry-8 Women’s, 43 OPEN), then dividing by number of members.)

Local Notable:

As City Tournament Singles was winding down last Friday at Riverwood Lanes,

(which seems a lot longer than four or five days ago), Chad Canute decided to increase the excitement. In his final game of Singles, after posting games of 199 and 214, he rolled out 12 consecutive strikes for his third career 300 game! Well done Chad, well done indeed!

Mount Pleasant USBC — Serving all mid-michigan communities. (Almost 60 different Michigan cities are represented within our active bowlers from 20182019.)

Hope to see you “on the lanes” soon. THIS ALREADY IS a bowling season to remember!
