MY 1043’s ‘Fill a Mayflower’ Food Drive to be held Nov. 20

The MY 1043 “Fill a Mayflower” Food Drive will be collecting non- perishable food items and cash donations fromthe community to help those less fortunate this holiday season, in the area.

“We are excited because this is a time when our entire community comes together for the common good of those in need, especially after the year we’ve been through,” General Manager and Owner, of Latitude Media, the parent company of locally owned MY 1043 WCZY-FM and 92.3 FM/ AM 830 WMMI radio, Bob Peters said. “We love the fact the people of Isabella County care so much about one another and are always ready, willing and able to do whatever it takes to help. Let the magic begin.”

According to a press release from MY 1043, MY 1043 & 92.3 FM/AM 830 WMMI radio, The United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties, and I-ride will be “Filling a Mayflower” moving truck from Sowle Mayflower at Ric’s Food Center (at intersecti­on of Mission and High Streets inmt. Pleasant) on Friday, Nov. 20 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The united way of gratiot & Isabella Counties will be on site all day to assist with the collection efforts and will physically distribute to 6 local food banks, following the food drive, that evening.

Along with this, the 2nd annual “Corporate Charity Challenge!” will also be going on. This is where local businesses are challengin­g each other on social media and through MY 1043 radio to raise themost non-perishable­s and cash for this cause. The business who raises the

I-ride is also helping out by coming to resident’s location within Isabella County on the day of the event to pickup nonperisha­ble food items. Those interested, must call the I- Ride line at 989.772.9441 to schedule a pick up. I-ride will also be hosting a “Food for Fare” on that day which allows riders to just bring nonperisha­ble food items instead of paying the normal fare to utilize the IRide service. I-ride will donate 100% of the proceeds to our “Fill A Mayflower” event.

Ric’s Food Center is once again hosting their “2020 High 5 Turkey Drive!” Shop at Ric’s, donate cash and they’ll give turkeys to local food pantries to local needy families. Last year over $3,200 was raised and 172 Turkeys donated.

“The holiday season is especially tough on local families with children,” Annie Sanders, President of Unitedway of Isabella & Gratiot counties, said. “Supplement­al food assistance provided through My1043’s annual Fill- aMayf lower Food Drive helps to stock the shelves of several local food pantries to ensure that no one goes hungry in our community.”
