As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the Karma Kat Cafe continues to help cats find homes.

The café is located at 612 E. Broadway Street and opened in June 2018 as a way to reduce the homeless cat population within the area. The café is licensed animal shelter that has has over 300 adoptions since opening.

“We help individuals who find strays or can’t take care of their pets and work with other rescues and shelters in the area,” Karma Kat Cafe manager Katelynn Sikkila said.

Customers can pay an entrance fee to go into the lounge where 20 to 30 adoptable cats will be for customers to view, pet, and play with. For a small donation, customers can enjoy coffee, tea, soda, juice, water, snacks, muffins, cookies, and cake pops while there.

Since the pandemic started, the cafe has faced some difficulties.

“It’s been difficult to survive on visitation fees,” Sikkila said.

The cafe has restricted visitors to a max of 8 visitors, canceled events, and is open around 4 hours a day.

“We’ve also been flooded with rescues and a lot of the money we make goes into caring for the cats,” Sikkila said. “Adoptions were slow at the beginning but has picked up. We’ve had 5 adoptions in the last 3 days.”

Karma Kat Cafe has continued to promote business on social media by constantly posting and hosting virtual parties.
