CMU closes out season at Toledo today

On Saturday afternoon from the Glass Bowl in Toledo the Central Michigan University football team will close out its 2020 season with a 3 p.m. MidAmerica­n Conference matinee versus the host Rockets.

Both teams come in tied for third in the MAC West Division with matching 3-2 records. The game will be aired live on ESPN3 and on the local airwaves at 98.5-FM, WUPS.

Ball State hosts WMU Saturday in a winner-take- all contest in that the winner of this contest wins the MAC West Division crown and advances to take on Buffalo in the MAC Championsh­ip game later this month.

On paper the Rockets rank near the top of the MAC in both offense and defense. Both teams score a lot of points. Toledo averages 37 points per while CMU averages 33.

The Rockets have split their last two games, winning at NIU 41-24 last week after losing at

home to Ball State 27-24 the week before.

CMU got crushed by Ball State last week 45-20.

Offensivel­y, Ty Brock stepped into the starting role at QB last week and has completed 29- of46 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also been intercepte­d twice since Richardson went down with injury at EMU.

CMU’S rushing attack has been a bit up and down in recent weeks, yet it’s a strength usually. Kobe Lewis has rushed for 410 yards and six scores on 87 carries while Lew Nichols has 407 yards and three scores on 68 carries.

Kalil Pimpleton has big-play potential and has 23 catches for 241 yards and two TDS. Jacorey Sullivan has 14 receptions for 156 yards while Dallas Dixon has 13 catches for 263 yards.

Carter Bradley completed 29of- 44 passes for 432 yards and four scores in Toledo’s win over NIU last week. Isiah Winstead had eight catches for 106 yards. Rushing wise Bryan Koback leads the Rockets with 99 carries for 399 yards.
