City Bowling Tournament complete, but far from normal
With regular leagues and City Tournament going simultaneously, lane availability was at a definite premium last week.
The actual tournament team numbers don’t reflect a drop in entries, but, as far as total participation in S&D, we could have done much, much better. We will, hopefully, be able to resume a traditional City Tournament Week next year!
• City Tournament participation: Women’s Division (62.2%), up from 40% each of the last two years. open division (160%) up from 100%. Overall participation: Up almost 30% from 77.9% to an all-time high of 126.2%! Percentages can certainly be deceiving. The membership numbers definitely show that!
• Membership: Down from
414 to 260. (For the 20202021 season, 260 Usbccertified members (90 female, 170 male, not including Youth bowlers, which maintained).
• REMEMBER: Tournament participation numbers are calculated by (5*open team entries-20), (4*Women’s TEAM entries-8), (4*each S&D entry-6 Women’s, 22 OPEN), then dividing by the membership numbers.)

REMINDER: City Tournament checks will be distributed at our MP USBC Association Membership meeting, tentatively planned for Friday, April 9, 7 p.m., Riverwood Lanes Villa Room.
Once completed, I’ll post scores receiving checks. Payout numbers will be down this year since the CT Prize List doesn’t have additional funds from a complete season of 50/50 drawings. There will, however, be $500 added directly from USBC National Headquarters!
USBC appropriated $3.5 million to local associations to aid them financially in the wake of unprecedented losses experienced in bowling nationwide due to COVID-19 shutdowns. Have questions? Call/text DPL at: 989-560-8009.
Local notable
Last Thursday, City Tournament bowler, Jordan Wohlscheid, accomplished something he’d never done before... his first career 300 game! (193-300-190/683), with his Burger King team. Well done, Jordan, well done indeed!

Local High School bowling: Continue supporting your local teams!
The MPHS Girls & Boys teams each met strong Grand Blanc Bobcats squads, capturing only four of 60 points in the two matches! For the Boys, freshman Dane Sampson (173, 266) won two points & Angelo Porter (211) the other one.
Sampson has been a shining bright spot all season, with the third highest average on the team. The Girls one point came from Madison Reinking’s 170 game. Now it’s on to the league Position Round and Regionals next week. I’ll see you “on the lanes”, hopefully during the upcoming weekend Notap Tournaments in late March!
