Central Michigan University Research Corporation (CMURC) is exploring new opportunities to facilitate strategic industry research, education and workforce partnerships.

CMURC is a professional and diverse coworking space with accelerator programs focused on product and strategic development.

Accelerators from the statewide Smartzone network help to mine technology from universities and private enterprise, assist companies and entrepreneurs in building business structures around the technology, conduct product development and help companies secure necessary start up financing.

Other potential partnership opportunities include shared talent, resources and space; applied learning and workforce development for students; collaboration on scholarly publications and presentations; and research partnerships.

The goal of each partnership is to build a reciprocal ecosystem to promote innovation, economic development, and cultural enrichment by engaging with Michigan’s communities for collaboration, according to a press release from the CMURC.

“Fostering the relationship between industry, universities, professionals and corporations will drive innovation and encourage economic growth in our region,” said President and CEO of CMURC Erin Strang. “The connectivity will produce opportunities for high tech companies and stimulate innovative thinking amongst students.”

CMURC is currently assisting Life Magnetics, Inc. to help accelerate fundraising efforts for the company. Life Magnetics has developed of the world’s first carbon-based RNA extraction method that allows RNA to be extracted, processed, shipped, and stored much more easily than with existing silica-based methods.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to bring a cutting-edge life science company to the Great Lakes Bay Region,” said Rick Goedert, the lead investor of capital raise for Life Magnetics. “Local investment is critical as we are preparing to promote the company at a national level.”
