- COON, SALLY RAYE

Sally Raye Coon, age 88, of Lake George, formerly of Alma, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 25, 2021 surrounded by family. She was born May 15, 1933 in Rogers City to Aubrey and Edna (Mcallister) Wickersham. Sally graduated from Alma High School in 1951and remained very active with Club 51, getting together with her classmates once a month. She took great pride in planning and attending class reunions. Sally Wickersham married Richard “Dick” Coon on February 13, 1954 in Alma and together they had four children. Her children were proud to call her “mom.” Sally worked several jobs throughout her life, from stenographer to dispatcher to bus driver, but none were more important than being a mom. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, including frequent visits to Rogers City to stay connected to her many nieces and nephews and their families. Fortunately, Sally

tember. She loved to follow the various activities of her children and grandchildren and traveled all over the country for sporting events, dance recitals, choir concerts, graduations, and weddings. Dick and Sally loved to travel together and no distance was too far to drive. They were “all in” for each one of their kids and grandkids and great grandkids, as well as their dogs. Their expertise was so broad

that they donated their time in many ways. Sally’s contributions to the lives of many include leading the church youth group for years in Alma, cooking

at football camp for decades in Cheboygan, revitalizing the Sigma Pi Fraternity House at CMU, coaching cheerleading at Alma High School, remodeling and organizing homes for family and friends, and welcoming all to her home and cottage. Her love was

often demonstrated through the immense amount of food provided. Sally was supportive, comforting, caring, and offered the best advice. She listened

with a compassionate ear and never judged. She took a genuine interest in each person she met and wanted every detail. Conversations could last into the night, and much was shared around the kitchen table. Every emotion was expressed in tears. Sally’s legacy is her unconditional “heart on her sleeve.” No greater honor could a mother/ grandmother leave. Sally has three simple requests when leaving the cottage that will forever be followed: honk when you go over the tracks, watch for deer, and call when you get home! This was her way of saying, “be safe and come back soon.”

She is deeply missed but lives on in the hearts of many. Sally is survived by her children, Jack (Erin) Coon of Cheboygan, Kenneth (Lori) Coon of Abita

Springs, LA, Michael (Sandy) Coon of Romeo and Michele Bigelow of Alma; 11 grandchildren, William Coon, Ryan (Brianna) Coon, Sissy Blewster, Joe (Lindsie) Robb, Jackie (Thomas) Woolridge, Mitchell (Amanda) Bigelow, Melissa Coon, Melanie Coon, Erica Bigelow, Evan Bigelow, Collin Engle; seven great-grandchildren, Winston Blewster, IV, Emma Grace Coon, Ashlyn Woolridge, Blaire and

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; a granddaughter, Hillary Bigelow; sisters, Cozetta Berg and Patricia Vanatten; and a brother, Royce Wickersham.
