In Isabella, where there’s smoke there’s fire — in Kansas
Reports of smoke in Isabella County were plentiful enough early Thursday morning that two fire departments actually checked for unreported fires.
But rest easy — if you can with this wind — it's coming from almost 1,000 miles away.
“We are getting reports of haze/ smoke in the western portion of the county,” Isabella County Central Dispatch reported on Facebook.
“Looking at radar maps, we are seeing smoke from wildfires west of us settling in our area so there is no need to be alarmed.”
Mid-michigan, like much of the Midwest, is under a high wind advisory today with gusts hitting 45-60 mph.
National Weather Service forecasters in Chicago were also getting reports of smoke in the air.
“Any early risers out there may smell smoke,” they posted.
“Have no fear — there are no fires nearby. The smoke is actually from Kansas, traveling some 600 miles overnight with the strong southwest winds.”
In Isabella, dispatchers thanked Millbrook Rolland Fire Department and Fremont Fire Department for checking a few areas to confirm.
