A 54-year-old Mt. Pleasant man was arrested in the city’s downtown Monday evening after police say he pulled a knife on another man who called him a “b----.”

City police officers were called to

North Main Street near Pisanello’s, 110 N. Main St., at approximately 10 p.m. Monday after an assault was reported.

Once there, officers interviewed the 54-year-old man and the 32-year-old man he was accused of pulling the knife on.

The 54-year-old told officers that the altercation started after the younger man started antagonizing him and that he called him a “b---.” He admitted to saying, “Come on,” and pulling a folding knife out of his jacket but told officers he didn’t fold out the blade.

The younger man disputed that, saying that he left Downtown Discount from the Main Street exit and needed to lock the door on Broadway, but that the other man blocked his way while the two exchanged heated words.

He told officers that the other man pulled the knife out with the blade out and stepped forward and backward while saying, “Come on.”

The officer asked the other man if the blade was out on the knife when he confronted the man and whether he lunged at him. The other man said that didn’t happen and repeated that the younger man called him “a b----.”

Police arrested the man, who claimed to have COVID-19 symptoms. A test performed at the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police indicated that he didn’t have the disease and he was lodged at the Isabella County Jail.
