Police warn of two phone scams
Two separate phone scams — both intended to raise fake worries about a friend or relative to get financial information — are making the rounds in mid-michigan, Mt. Pleasant police said on Tuesday.
Residents are being told to be vigilant and suspicious of anyone trying to get cash or bank information over the phone.
“Both involve a phone request to wire money, provide credit card access, or bank account numbers,” police said on Facebook.
The first scheme involves a scenario where a family member is currently being held hostage and you must pay a ransom.
The caller in the second scheme states a warrant is out for your arrest and you must send money.
“It is helpful to remember, a law enforcement agency will never call to inform you a warrant is out for your arrest, and you need to remit payment to avoid being arrested.”
Please be vigilant when you receive a request to send money or share any personal financial data, and do not provide any information regarding yourself or family members, they said.
