HUMAN TOUCH
Rick Springfield, Men at Work bring Down Under show to Soaring Eagle
Two popular Aussie acts — Rick Springfield and Men At Work — will share the bill in a night of ’80s nostalgia at Soaring Eagle Casino during the holiday week.
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Springfield, who was born in New South Wales but holds dual citizenship in Australia and the United States, created some of the best-known power pop of the 1980s, with hits including “Jessie’s Girl,” “Human Touch” (for which the spacey sci-fi video was set in 2016!) and “Don’t Talk to Strangers.” He’s also made his reputation as a heartthrob and actor in “General Hospital” and other TV shows ranging from “Supernatural” and “Californication” — in which he played a dissipated version of himself — to the gritty “True Detective.” He also played opposite Meryl Streep in the feature film “Ricki and the Flash.”
The band Men at Work burst out worldwide with the 1981 multiplatinumselling album “Business as Usual.” Its hits “Down Under” and “Who Can it Be Now” were MTV staples, and the band won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1983. After three albums (“Cargo” in 1983 and “Two Hearts” in 1985), members of the quartet left the band, but founding frontman Colin Hay and original saxophonist/flutist Greg Ham toured as Men at Work from 1996-2002. Ham died of an apparent heart attack in 2012, but Hay — who maintained his solo career and even performed with Ringo Starr’s All-starr Band — revived the name and toured Europe with a lineup of Los Angeles musicians in 2019. Now he’s back on the road.
The show starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday,
Dec. 28, at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, 6800 Soaring Eagle Blvd., Mt. Pleasant. Tickets start at $27 at soaringeaglecasino.com, or call 888-732-4537.
