‘Super Car Guy’ Jim Sisson dies at age 76
Mt. Pleasant’s “Super Car Guy,” who ran dealerships and sold cars in mid-michigan for more than four decades, has died.
Jim Sisson, of Mt. Pleasant — perhaps best known for opening and running Heritage Chrysler and Tradition Oldsmobile — was 76.
Sisson, a Vietnam veteran whose passion for the auto industry was second only to his commitment to family and community, was first dubbed Super Car Guy by his fellow Optimist Club members.
But the monicker stuck and grew.
“He proudly embraced it, became known by it, and will be remembered by many as Super Car Guy,” his family said in an obit
uary.
Sisson died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at Mymichigan Medical Center Midland.
After serving in Vietnam, Sisson and his wife, the former Lynn Erickson, moved to Clare to join her family at Gateway Chrysler.
“In 1977 Jim purchased and ran Smith Motors in Shepherd until 1985, when he made the leap to build Heritage Chrysler from the ground up in Mt. Pleasant,” his family said. “Heritage Collision came next; owned by Lynn, followed by the Tradition Oldsmobile dealership.”
Sisson retired in 2016.
“It was always important to Jim to help people, which he did in every way from supporting students, little league teams, volunteering his time and resources, financial contributions, to creating a scholarship for kids wanting to pursue an education in the automotive trade,” family recalled.
Survivors include his wife Lynn; three children Julie (Ryan) Lalone of Gaylord, Jamie (Alan) Dekelaita of Clarkston, and James Eric Sisson of Mt. Pleasant; and five grandchildren, among others.
A private family memorial service will be held on Jan. 7.
Arrangements are by Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
