Metro organizations lend support to Oxford community
Church addresses need for counseling, help
Helping to heal the emotional scars of the recent Oxford High School shooting incident was a key focus for a metro Detroit-area church and a school in December, as one raised funds and the other raised spirits.
Immanuel Lutheran Church Rev. Michael Heiden said that Immanuel church leaders reached out to Journey Lutheran Church shortly after Nov. 30, 2021, to see how it could assist the Oxford community as it continued to cope with the aftermath of the Oxford High School shootings. Immanuel Lutheran Church and School is located at 47120 Romeo Plank in Macomb Township, and Journey Lutheran Church is located at located at 136 S. Washington St. in Oxford.
The Oxford church recently began a new ministry to provide more assistance to those in need of counseling throughout the Oxford community as its residents continue to deal with the emotional aftereffects of the shooting incident. Heiden said that Immanuel chose to offer financial support to the endeavor.
