Hearing set for $142,000 alley proposals
Mt. Pleasant city commissioners are holding a public hearing Jan. 24 for a proposed $142,000 downtown alley reconstruction involving two special assessment districts.
The hearing will take place during the city’s regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. to get input regarding the reconstruct in district 1-22 — the alley between Michigan, Main, University and Broadway streets; and district 2-22 — the alley in the block between Broadway and Michigan from University 115.5 feet east of Franklin.
Total funding for district 1-22 is estimated to be $142,000, with $62,812.85 to be spread over the special assessment district based on front foot or side lot. The city will pay the remaining $79,187.15, according to city officials.
Total cost for reconstruct in the 2-22 district is estimated to
be $132,000, with the city paying $78,413.04; $53,586.96 will be assessed to businesses based on the same criteria.
A report regarding funding for each of the two projects that includes a description of the assessment district and other information is on file at the clerk’s office at Mt. Pleasant City Hall, 320 W. Broadway St.
City hall is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Anyone interested can attend and participate. In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, public hearings will be held in person with virtual attendance optional.
