Accused van thief on probation for gun sentence
Suspect released from prison in Aug. 2020
A man accused of pointing a stolen .44 Magnum revolver at the owner of a van he was accused of driving off in was on probation after serving more than 10 years in federal prison on a gun-related guilty plea.
Richard Lee Grass, 53, was released from federal prison on Aug. 9, 2020, having served more than 10 years after pleading guilty to one count of felon in possession of a gun in November 2008. In exchange, another count, that the serial number on the .32 pistol he had was obliterated, was dropped. Grass also had ammunition for the pistol on him.
At the time of his release, federal court documents described Grass as homeless and having a history of substance abuse issues. Substance abuse treatment and mental health treatment were both sentencing terms.
