Alma’s Munger signs to wrestle at Michigan State
Signed, sealed, delivered. On Friday afternoon, Alma High School senior Jacob Munger signed his National-letter-of-intent to wrestle at Michigan State University starting this fall.
Munger won the Division 3 state championship at 189 pounds back in early-march, capping a phenomenal prep career with a state title. He went 44-2 on the season and helped lead the Panthers to their firstever appearance in the D3 team state championship match.
During his prep career he earned first-team All-conference honors three times and compiled a career record of 134-45. He also earned Allstate honors as a junior after finishing fifth in the D3 individual finals at 160 pounds.
The two-time team captain also recorded the fastest pinfall in state history during his junior campaign, setting the new standard at 171 pounds with a four-second pin.
Team-wise the Panthers put together a fine four-year run with Munger right in the middle of it. The Panthers won four team districts, four team regionals and advanced to the MHSAA team finals four times.
Munger also played linebacker on the football team and golfs. He is an Academic All-stater as well.
