A resident of Oak Tree Village, on Mt. Pleasant’s Oak Street, is facing charges that he put an egg in the apartment complex manager’s gas tank over a rental assistance dispute.

The manager of the complex told police that in early April, she started driving her car, which started to experience engine trouble. When she checked the area around the gas tank door, she told police she found residue of egg yolk.

Police asked her if she knew anyone who might do that, and she identified one of the complex’s residents who was currently facing eviction.

During questioning, the man admitted to doing it but said he only thought the egg would turn the gas to sludge. He also said he did it because the apartment complex management company had

miscalculated the amount of assistance he was due to help with rent.

The man was arrested and charged with one count of malicious destruction of property, a five-year felony. He is scheduled for a May 19 hearing to determine whether enough evidence exists to bind him over for trial.
