A Clare homeowner shot and killed an intruder Thursday morning, Michigan State Police said.

Clare officers were dispatched to the report of a home invasion in progress on Mcewan Street about 6 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots from the residence.

“Initial investigation revealed that the homeowner fired a weapon at the intruder causing fatal injuries,” police said. “Neither the homeowner nor the officers were injured.”

Clare police in a Facebook post said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there’s no threat to the public.

The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time as this remains an active investigation by both the Michigan State Police and Clare Police Department.
