Officials approve millage renewal for August ballot
Medical Care Facility millage would raise $2.25M in first year
Administrators at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility say that renewing the facility’s millage will raise $2.25 million during the first year of the 10 that it’s good for.
County commissioners formally approved the 1-mill, 10-year mill for the Aug. 2 ballot at its Tuesday night meeting. That is the date of the statewide primary election at which both political parties will nominate candidates for partisan office including governor.
While the party primaries are sectioned off according to party affiliation, the millage will appear on all ballots as a non-partisan election question.
The renewal will extend a 20-year millage that financed, among other things, a dementia-care unit operational since 2005, according to a slideshow from Tuesday’s meeting.
During a presentation to commissioners, Administrator Alissa Haynak said that the facility is rated as five-stars and provides high-quality care, private rooms and a high staff-to-resident ratios. Using money raised through the millage, the facility has been able to establish a fleet of vehicles that help get residents into the community.
The facility is currently in the middle of what
is expected to be a $8 million planning and update project, she told commissioners.the
project involves modernizing the building’s core, which remains from the original 1965 construction.
The HVAC and plumbing in that part of the building are in need of work, she said.
