Police: Man, 48, was shot and killed
Identity of man killed by homeowner released
A 48-year-old Clare man has been identified as the intruder who was shot and killed by a homeowner in the city early Thursday morning.
Clare police on Friday said the man killed was Kevin Michael Lighthall, 48, of Clare.
No other information on Lighthall, who shows no felony criminal convictions on the Michigan Department of Corrections website, was released.
A Clare homeowner who had reported a man was breaking into his house shot and killed Lighthall about 6 a.m. Thursday morning, Michigan State Police said.
Clare officers had been dispatched to the home invasion in progress on Mcewan Street and heard gunshots from the residence upon arrival.
“Initial investigation revealed that the homeowner fired a weapon at the intruder causing fatal injuries,” police said. “Neither the homeowner nor the officers were injured.”
The homeowner’s identity is not being released, Clare police said Friday.
“The incident remains under investigation and upon completion will be forwarded to the Clare County prosecutor for review,” they said. “There is no timeline on when that will be.”
Clare police in a Facebook post that morning said the shooting was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public
