Childcare providers can still apply for grants
Whitmer reminds professionals they can get piece of $365M fund
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is reminding licensed childcare providers to apply for state grant funding that would be used to provide $1,000 bonuses to childcare staff and to help cover operational costs.
There are two weeks left to apply for the Child Care Stabilization Grant Program, which included in the state’s fiscal year 2022 budget and included $365 million in funding.
Whitmer said her administration and the state legislature worked together to approve a budget that included a $1.4 billion investment in the state’s childcare providers and staff because they are essential to helping families, communities, and small businesses succeed.
To date, around 3,400 childcare providers statewide have appled for funding. Childcare staff will be awarded bonuses directly from their employer and do not need to apply for grant funding.
How to apply
Licensed childcare providers should visit Michigan.gov/childcare to review frequently asked questions and apply.
The application window will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 26.
