DDA districts grant program revealed

Economic Development Authority Board announces funds to assist businesses

Union Township’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) Board recently announced a grant program to assist businesses in the Township’s two downtown development authority (DDA) districts with improvement projects.

The EDA Board was established by the elected Township Board of Trustees to govern the East and West DDA Districts. The EDA Board’s mission is to prevent district deterioration, to promote overall economic growth and to create and implement long-term development plans for each DDA District. The most recent development plans for each district were adopted in 2021.

Owners of eligible local businesses who are interested in taking advantage of these grant funding opportunities are invited to submit an application with their improvement plans to the EDA Board. To be eligible, the business must be located either the East DDA District along the E. Pickard Road (M-20) corridor from Packard Street east to S. Summerton Road, or in the West DDA’S business district along E. Remus Road (M-20) from Bradley Street to west of S. Lincoln Road and also along S. Lincoln Road to the north and south of M-20.

Projects eligible for grant funding include replacement of outdated free-standing signs with more effective monument-style signage, site beautification and barrier-free pedestrian access improvements. The application form and additional information can be found on the Township’s website under Boards and Commissions/economic Development Authority at uniontownshipmi.com

Local businesses are invited to deliver completed applications with supporting documentation and plans to the Township office at 2010 S. Lincoln Road. Applications can be submitted

at any time and will be evaluated during a regular meeting of the EDA Board. This grant program and potential grant award amounts listed on the application form are subject to adjustment by the EDA Board depending on demand and program effectiveness.
