Sumner Daze Festival gets underway Aug. 19
The annual Sumner Daze Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19 and 20 with a variety of activities in the township park and on the community center grounds.
Things kick off with an all you can eat pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday at the community center. Meals cost $10 for adults, $5 for children 4-7 and free for those age 3 and younger.
Two-day combination tickets are available for $15.
Other activities taking place both days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. are an arts and crafts show, petting zoo and pony rides ($5).
Carnival rides, a giant slide and inflatables will also be offered at the same time both days and all are free.
In addition, Pure Pro Wrestling matches will take place outside the community center at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, and again at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Other activities on Saturday, Aug. 19, include a flag ceremony at 10:15 a.m. followed by the grand parade starting at the township park at 10:30 a.m.
Face painting at the community center and a horseshoe tournament in the park begin at 11 a.m. The tournament is for men and women age 14 and older. The cost to enter is $10.
A children’s pedal pull is set for 11:30 a.m in front of the community center, while a Heavy Hauler Truck Show honoring Aaron Waldron and Arlin Strong will take place in the park from noon to 3 p.m.
Tractor pulls will start at 1 p.m., a draft horse pull at 5 p.m. and bingo from 5 to 8 p.m. at the community center.
At 6 p.m. there will be entertainment in the park provided by D.J. Ross Briggs’ Sensational Sounds.
On Sunday, Aug. 20, a classic car show is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with registration beginning at 9 a.m. It costs $10 to enter and trophies will be awarded to the top participants.
A barbeque rib and chicken dinner will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will also include potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, roll and cookie for $13 per person. Children 4-7 can eat for $7 and those 3 and younger are free.
A pet parade will take place at noon, a mini-horse pull at 1 p.m. and a gospel sing at 2 p.m.
The festival will conclude with a rubber duck race down the Pine River at 3 p.m. Ducks cost $1 each and will be available at the information booth.
