Lake Isabella seeks new council candidate
Lake Isabella officials are looking for a qualified resident to fill a vacancy on the village council.
Changing his primary residence to Florida, Village Treasurer Charlie Kiel resigned at the Dec. 19 meeting, leaving not only the treasurer position open but a seat on the council because its officers are elected members of the group.
Following Kiel’s resignation, the remaining village council unanimously approved Robert Laraway to fill the treasurer vacancy until the next election of officers.
The village council is taking applications until Jan. 10 to fill the vacancy until the November general election.
Qualified residents must have been registered to vote in the village for at least 30 days, Village Manager Tim Wolff said.
Lake Isabella’s village charter prohibits village council members from serving on the board of directors for any property owner associations in the community, and prohibits anyone with felony convictions from service on the council, Wolff said.
Lake Isabella’s village council consists of seven members — a president, clerk, treasurer and four council members who are elected to four-year terms, with officers being elected by the group at an organizational meeting.
Lake Isabella’s charter entrusts the village council to provide for the public peace, public health and well-being, safety and the general welfare of the community.
Duties of village council members include setting the budget, hiring and reviewing the village manager, adopting all ordinances, approving all contracts and setting the annual millage rate, and is the final authority in adopting the community’s master plan.
Anyone who is qualified and interested in serving can fill out an application online at https:// www.lakeisabellami.org/.
