Liz Cheney tells the truth

- Ed Fisher is a Morning Sun columnist.

First, I thank the many friends of my deceased wife, Nedra, who personally, or by card, or by Facebook sent their condolences and memories of their wonderful interactions with her. I will remember and love her forever.

Second, I hope you had a peaceful, happy holiday season and are looking forward to a better 2024.

I am reading Liz Cheney’s book, “Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning,” from Little, Brown & Company, New York, Boston, London, 2023.

She remains a true Republican with whom I disagree on policy, but her she breaks with Gopers in Congress by telling the truth about Donald Trump, his minions, and the damage he WILL do if elected in 2024.

She opposes abortion rights, assault weapons bans, background checks for gun buyers, voting rights, consumer protections against price gouging in fuel sales, anything that would curtail oil drilling and coal mining — never mind their impact on the environment — and marriage equality, going so far as to refuse to attend her sister’s gay wedding in 2012. She voted for Donald Trump’s positions 92.9% of the time during his four-year term.

“Then she voted to impeach him after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and she didn’t mince words. ‘The president of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the president. The president could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution,’” according to Cheney ‘burns every bridge’ in ‘Oath and Honor’ — The Durango Herald

Cheney says her fellow Republicans have a “plague of cowardice” and calls what’s become of the party of Lincoln an “anti-constitution party,” whose members are beholden to “the orange Jesus” and have lost all respect for the rule of law. (You notice in recent photos of Donnyt that he has colored hair and an orange, mottled face,)

She belittles Kevin Mccarthy, (Republican member of the House of Representatives who became speaker of the House in January 2023 but was expelled, on October 3) whose “lies, betrayals and failures of leadership are catalogued in such lavish detail, it makes me wonder if this book played a role in his decision to turn tail and resign from the House this month.”

In addition to Mccarthy, she blasts Mike Johnson, Jim Jordan, Elise Stefanik and Lauren Boebert among many others as dishonorable clowns willing to violate their oath of office and the Constitution for Trump.

She came to respect Nancy Pelosi for her integrity and leadership throughout the investigation by the House Select Committee into the Jan. 6 insurrection. She called her “a leader of historic consequence.”

Cheney details the Jan. 6 riot, when Trump supporters sprayed police officers with poisonous chemicals, beat them with flag poles and steel rods, and tried to steal their weapons.

They stormed the U.S. Capitol, terrorized members of Congress and their staffs, and vowed to “Hang Mike Pence.”

When Trump told the rioters to “get rid of” Liz Cheney, her father former Vice President Dick Cheney, called to tell her she was in danger and needed to take cover.

“History is watching,” she says bravely in the book. See: Friday, Dec 22, 2023 4:30 a.m. Cheney ‘burns every bridge’ in ‘Oath and Honor,’ According to The Journal (the-journal.com)
