HERTZ LEGENDS

Muscle Car Review - - Letters -

Felt compelled to expand on the mythsand-legends part of your great article on the G.T. 350H (“Hertz So Good,” Aug. 2018). At a young age of 23 back in 1965, I lived at the dragstrip every weekend. Englishtown (Madison Township Raceway Park) had just opened. My friends and I would either be racing or spectating at one of their great Sunday shows. To get to the track from the north you would use the New Jersey Turnpike and drive past Newark Airport. At that time, Hertz had its storage yard bordering the turnpike at the airport. Every time we passed this lot during the 1965-1966 season there would be two or three wrecked Hertz G.T. 350s sitting in the yard. At the track there would be at least one or two racing every weekend and winning. As time went on we saw less and less of them at the track or the storage yard. There is truth to that part of the legends and myths. Thanks for a great book.
