The folks at Earl’s Performance Plumbing have given some thought to the design of the cylinder-head bolts they make for big-block Chevys (shown here) and small-block Fords. They are fashioned from 170,000-psi chromoly alloy steel, which is about 15 percent stronger than Grade 8 bolts, says the company. The bolt heads (available in both 12-point and hex-head configurations) are smaller than usual for extra socket clearance around the rocker arms. Plus, an extrawide flange provides additional support for the extra-thick chromoly washers included in the set. Information: Earl’s Performance Plumbing division of Holley, holley.com/brands/earls.
