Hot Wheels

Muscle Car Review - - Up Front -

Palmer’s account of the 50-year history of Mattel’s die-cast Hot Wheels is a lot like the cars themselves: lively, colorful, and really fun to spend time with. The origin story is told with archival photos, designer sketches, and even U.S. Patent paperwork (for the iconic orange track). But the book also delves into toy history, Hot Wheels–related merchandise, collectability and rarities, and the 1:1-scale cars enthusiasts have built in tribute to their 1:64 favorites. The book comes in a plastic carrying case similar to those we used to store our cars when they weren’t flying down that orange track.
