CORRECT HOODSCOOP SHEEN

Mustang Monthly - - RESTOROUNDUP -

We would like to know what product you use for the black finish on the 1970 Boss 429 hoodscoop. The PPG Hot Rod Black we tried seemed too flat. We tried to flatten some PPG Concept Black, but it looked milky— not black enough. We saw the two 1970 Boss 429s at the Kansas City MCA show and really liked the color and sheen. Please share the mix code. Thanks. Fellow Boss Restorer Via the Internet

The paint we use on the 1970 Boss 429 hoodscoop is factory pack Ditzler DDL 9423 acrylic lacquer. The scoops were originally painted in RM lacquer at Kar Kraft. We use PPG DP90LF as a base, or it may be used as a sealer if the scoop requires repair. It’s difficult to replicate the OEM lacquer finish with flattened urethane black.
