Export Excellence

Mustang Monthly - - READERSÕALBUM -

Mustangs have been exported since they first hit the showroom floor in 1964. Often, export models had different lights or safety equipment, or they could be had with options not available in the United States. Take Adam Nelson’s Dark Midnight Blue 1978 King Cobra, for example. Nelson, of Wausau, Wisconsin, explains, “When the car was ordered it had a V-8 and four-speed with power brakes and power steering. Only you could not order a four-speed because of emissions back in the day. The only reason it was ordered is because it was marked for export for the owner who was in the military and stationed in Japan. But before it was exported, he came back to the U.S. and picked up the car and drove it home to South Dakota. He later sold it and we got it and have had it ever since the early ’90s.”
