Three rea­sons why this Boss 429 is the best re­stored Mus­tang ever

By all odds, there is not a finer re­stored Mus­tang than this 1970 Boss 429, and for three main rea­sons; the first be­ing a start­ing point of just 1,608 orig­i­nal miles. Rea­son No. 1’s im­por­tance, orig­i­nal­ity, matches Bob Perkins’ restora­tion phi­los­o­phy of the last 37 years, which he summed up, off the cuff, as we talked about the un­der­car­riage of this car. He said, “The best cars, when they’re done, were the bet­ter cars to start with.”

Perkins’ 20/20 vi­sion of fore­sight, which he has pos­sessed since his start in the hobby in 1981, has led him to buy the best Mus­tangs. He’s bought cars such as a Black Jade Boss 429 with 902 miles, a 1970 Grab­ber Or­ange Boss 302 with 1,554 miles, and, of course, the 1969 Mach 1 with 54 miles that has never been ti­tled or dealer-prepped.
