LOVE couldn’t keep them together — but death reunited The Captain and Tennille! Legendary hitmaker Daryl Dragon died Jan. 2 of renal failure at 76 in home hospice care. Although he had been bitterly estranged from his former musical partner and ex-wife, Toni Tennille, for years, she was at his bedside when he took his final breath! The National ENQUIRER can reveal that Toni, 78, had moved back into a home in Prescott, Ariz., near Daryl’s house in July 2017 to care for her dying ex. “Toni and Daryl kept in touch after their breakup,” dished a source. “She agreed to move back to be near him as his health continued to decline.” The couple didn’t rekindle their romance, but Toni’s publicist and pal Harlan

Boll said: “I joked that they became much closer than they had ever been during their marriage.”

The hottest pop duo of the ’70s suffered through a vicious breakup when Toni ordered the Captain to walk the plank out of her life forever in 2014! “She discarded

Daryl after 39 years of marriage,” fumed an insider at the time. Divorce documents obtained exclusively by The ENQUIRER revealed that wheelchairbound songwriter Daryl had signed a “disclaimer deed” giving away any rights to the couple’s $360,000 home! Daryl, who performed such massive hits as “Muskrat Love” and “Do That to Me One More Time” was riddled with Parkinson’s disease.

The crippling condition forced him into hospice care in 2015.

The next year, Toni released her scathing autobiography, “Toni Tennille,” charging that Daryl was an emotionally absent taskmaster.

“I can say without exaggeration that he showed no physical affection for me during our very long marriage,” she wrote.

Toni further ridiculed Daryl for his attempts to get her to eat healthy, his failed hair transplant and a medical condition that gave him unusually large eyeballs! “She killed their marriage, and now this book — what else can she do to humiliate him?” a source told The ENQUIRER at the time.

While in hospice, Daryl suffered frightening episodes of dementia, placing frantic 911 calls and claiming that someone was trying to kill him!

But when police arrived, they found Daryl “sleeping” and “secure,” according to a report obtained by The ENQUIRER.

“Thankfully, Toni’s return brought some peace to both of them,” a friend said. “In the end, love did bring them back together.”
