ABRAVE survivor believed to be one of psycho Ted Bundy’s first targets has come forward to tell The National ENQUIRER how she fought off the notorious serial killer — twice!
Retired nurse Linda Lail said Bundy — who confessed to 30 murders but is suspected of slaughtering more than 100 women — set his evil sights on her in 1969 as she was on her way to a waitressing job in Vancouver, Wash.
“He was handsome but creepy,” Linda exclusively told The ENQUIRER.
“He sweet-talked me into his car. He pulled out handcuffs and showed me a police badge. I started to struggle, and he hit me,” she recalled.
“My boss from the restaurant rushed over and pulled the door open.”
As Linda scrambled to safety, panicked Bundy hit the gas and smashed into numerous cars during his getaway.
Shockingly, Linda — now 67 and living in Florida — had a second chilling encounter with Bundy in Des Moines, Wash., five years later!
One evening, while her husband was at work, she was startled by someone trying to enter a partially open sliding door, which had been blocked with a broom handle for security.
“My heart jumped out of my chest,” Linda recalled. “It was him — Ted! He had his hand through the door. I screamed and slammed it on him.”
But crafty Bundy wriggled free and disappeared into the night to kill again!
Ted’s West Coast reign of terror ended in 1975 when he was arrested in Utah, but after two daring prison escapes in Colorado, his murderous rampage continued in
Florida, where he killed two college students and a 12-year-old girl before being apprehended once more.
After a sensational trial, Bundy was sentenced to death in 1980 and electrocuted nine years later at age 42. But Linda is not the only woman to have escaped Bundy’s wrath!
Students Rhonda Stapley and Carol DaRonch were each picked up by Bundy in 1974, but both fought their way to freedom.
