NFL STIFFS SUPER BOWL STARS J.LO & SHAKIRA
NFL CHEAPSKATES GAVE SUPERSTARS UNION SCALE WAGES
SHAKING their moneymakers at the Super Bowl didn’t bring in the dough for Jennifer Lopez and Shakira! The dynamic pop divas got paid “union scale” for their performances, which according to the American Federation of Musicians local union for South Florida, would amount to less than $200 each! But don’t cry for the “Hips Don’t Lie” firecracker and Jenny from the Block — whose booty was once reportedly insured for a whopping $27 million! According to reports, the National Football League foots the bill for around
$10 million in production costs for the Super Bowl’s halftime show — the most watched annual TV event in America — essentially providing performers a free platform.
Besides that, all Super Bowl performers, from last year’s Maroon 5 to even Beyoncé, essentially work for peanuts. Even better, the dueling divas are already seeing dividends!
Since the big game, J.Lo’s online streams soared a massive 335 percent, while Shakira’s jumped 230 percent.
What’s more, Shakira’s 2001 hit “Whenever, Wherever” topped the charts at 4,000 sales on
Feb. 2 — a stupefying 1,194 percent increase from the day before, according to Market Watch.
Despite the paltry paycheck, the Super Bowl’s halftime show “remains a highly coveted spot for many artists,” according to entertainment attorney Lori Landew.
And while J.Lo used the finale to make a statement in a cape with both the American and Puerto Rican flags, some stars simply see the show as an opportunity “to share their music and their talent with millions of viewers,” Landew added.
