RELAPSE FEARS FOR KIEFER AFTER MOM’S DEATH

ACTRESS SHIRLEY WAS BOOZE-BATTERED STAR’S ROCK

-

REFORMED lush Kiefer Sutherland is devastated over the death of his beloved mom, according to pals — who worry the “24” star will relapse!

Insiders said Kiefer idolized his mom, actress and activist Shirley Douglas, who passed away due to pneumonia at age 86 on April 5.

She not only starred in such celebrated films as Stanley Kubrick’s “Lolita,” but was also a tireless supporter of the civil rights movement and the fight to save the public health care system in her native Canada.

“Shirley was Kiefer’s rock,” said a source close to the booze-challenged “Designated Survivor” star. “She accomplished so much in her own life — but was always there to see him through troubled times. Without her, everyone is afraid he may fall back on bad habits!”

“The Lost Boys” star, who did not respond to The National ENQUIRER’s request for comment, has even admitted alcohol plays a big role in his life.

“One of the things I love to do is go out with my friends and tell stories and have a bunch of drinks,” the 53-yearold actor said in 2016. “I was never the guy, if something was wrong in my life or something wasn’t right, I didn’t go drown my sorrows.” The party animal’s been caught with his pants and tighty-whities pulled down to his ankles in a Burbank, Calif., eatery, been kicked out of a London strip club for ripping off his shirt and being drunk, and danced topless in a Canadian bar. Kiefer also tackled a giant Christmas tree in a swanky London hotel!

His antics have led to four DUIs, including a 48-day jail

stint on one charge, and he got stitches in his face after a barroom brawl. “Shirley always found a way to get him back on track,” the insider snitched.

“He knew that his antics disappointed her and without her around, the fear is that he’ll go off the deep end again and won’t have anybody to save him.”

But with Kiefer confessing he loves his cocktails, pals fear he may need to ditch the sauce now that he won’t have his mom around to help him. “Kiefer has to realize that his biggest problems in life were caused by booze,” the source said.

“Everyone’s worried he may try to drown his sorrows over Shirley — which is doubly scary since she was the only one who seemed to be able to keep him on the straight and narrow!”
