‘SHARK TANK’ BILLIONAIRE MARK CUBAN’S SUCCESS SECRETS

SURPRISES FROM THE ‘SHARK TANK’ BILLIONAIRE

-

SHARK Tank” heavy hitter Mark Cuban is worth a staggering $4.3 billion, but he started out selling powdered milk and sleeping on friends’ couches!

The 61-year-old entrepreneur’s motto is,

“If I can do it, you can do it” — and here he shares the eight secrets that helped him build a business empire!

SECRET #1: OUTWORK EVERYONE ELSE.

This isn’t exactly a secret, but hard work pays off. If you’re willing to put in more hours than other guys in your field, and learn all you can, you’ll always have an advantage. The one thing in life you can control is your effort!

SECRET #2: FIND WHAT YOU’RE GOOD AT, NOT YOUR PASSION.

Everybody wants to follow their dreams but analyzing where you spend your time will guide you in business. We tend to devote as much time as we can to things we are good at and can get better at. Following your effort is a much better guide to business success than following your passions. Once you figure out what you’re good at, you’ll know exactly where to start your business!

SECRET #3: SALES CURE ALL.

There has never been a business that’s succeeded without sales. Never! No matter what type of company you want to start, you have to always be selling. But selling isn’t about convincing. Selling is about helping your customers understand how your product or service can make their lives or business better!

SECRET #4: IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU FAIL, YOU ONLY HAVE TO BE RIGHT ONCE!

I bet you’ve never heard of the companies that I’ve started that failed. Or the jobs I have been fired from. I have failed many times. Probably more than you. But I have learned from every failure and that made me smarter. No one likes to fail, but if you do, don’t quit. Your next effort may be a game changer!

SECRET #5: BEING NICE IS GOOD BUSINESS.

When I first got started in business there was an attitude that good businesspeople were mean or abusive. I could never understand that approach. I learned very quickly that the nicer you are to people, the more they want to do business with you. It seems so simple, yet for some it’s hard. If you want to make it big, be nice!

SECRET #6: IT’S NOT IN THE DREAMING, IT’S IN THE DOING!

Everybody has dreams. Everybody can talk about what they want to achieve, but to achieve those dreams you have to take the first step. Some of the best businesses had simple beginnings. Sell a product you make yourself. Offer a service you do yourself. I sold garbage bags door-to-door at my first business. The hardest part was just knocking on that first door. But once I realized I could do it, the rest got easy. You can do it if you take that first step!

SECRET #7: NEVER SAY, ‘IF I HAD ONLY…’

When I’m not sure if I should do something I always ask myself: If I look back when I’m 95 years old, will I regret not doing this? If the answer is yes, I go for it and you should do the same! Go for it!

SECRET #8: HAVE FUN!

Whether you have a job or own your own business, there’s always a way to find joy and put a smile on your face and the face of those around you. When I was broke and living on mustard and ketchup sandwiches, I made sure to find time to spend with my friends and do things I enjoyed. Have fun!
