HEALTH RISK HAUNTS TEEN BLOOD DONORS!
TEENAGERS who donate blood may be in store for serious, long-term health problems! A new study, which found that continued iron deficiency is a risk for young donors, has led blood centers to recommend teens take low-dose iron supplements for 60 days after giving blood. “Blood loss of any kind is a common cause of iron deficiency,” noted Dr. Ralph Vassallo, the study’s lead author. He said iron deficiency can cause reduced exercise performance, lower infant birth weights and odd food cravings.
