CHIP COULD MEND DEFORMED EARS!

-

SCIENTISTS are readying a microchip that can work to straighten out mangled “cauliflower” ears! Boxers, athletes and others often wind up with scarred and wrinkled ears after years of abuse — from contact sports to barroom brawls — but Chinese scientists have restored misshapen mouse ears to pristine condition using a 3D bioprinting technique. The next step, they said, is to apply the technique to people. “The technology could be adapted for clinical use in humans,” said Professor Maling Gou, co-author of a paper published in Science Advances. “This would potentially enable many different types of minimally invasive or non-invasive reconstructive surgeries.”
