Christopher Columbus in Cleveland’s Little Italy with the likeness of Ettore Boiardi, also known as Chef Boyardee! Boiardi immigrated from his native Italy and landed in Cleveland in 1917. After working as a chef, he opened an Italian restaurant with his wife in the 1920s. Several years later, they expanded into factory production and Chef Boyardee took off.
The petition asks to tear down Columbus’ statue “and erect a statue to an immigrant success story who enriched our community with his food and iconic mustache.”
